# What is a “Vertiefungskurs”?
Vertiefungskurse are offered by students for students and are organized by the Student Body Council Computer Science.
The goal of these courses is to give you insights into topics that are not covered elsewhere in your studies.
Vertiefungskurse take place in a block format — this means there is a lecture and an exercise session every day.

# Algorithm Engineering Vertiefungskurs
## What is the content?
An introduction to Algorithm Engineering, the process of modeling real-world problems as mathematical optimization/decision problems, analyzing them theoretically, and implementing practically efficient algorithms that combine theoretical insights with practical experience.
Topics include:
– How does the Algorithm Engineering Development Cycle work?
– Efficient implementation of fundamental algorithmic problems
– What practical factors are ignored in theoretical analysis?
– How do we test and benchmark algorithms effectively?
– What do we do when theory only tells us, “This is really hard”?
The course will be taught in english.

March 10th – 14th
Lectures: Lecture Hall A, Nussallee 10 (Anatomy), 11 AM – 1 PM
Exercises: CIP Pools at the Institute of Computer Science, 2 PM – 4 PM
