How Can I Finance My Studies?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are many ways to finance your studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BAf\u00f6G<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There is a law called, BundesAusBildungsf\u00f6rderungsGesetz (BAf\u00f6G) that regulates that students may receive monthly monetary support under certain circumstances. Eligibility depends on your own income, but also on that of your parents, due to this there is unfortunately a lot of paperwork. But it’s worth it! An example is that if you are self insured and no longer reside with your family, you can get up to \u20ac934!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Half of the BAf\u00f6G can be considered as a gift, the other half is an interest-free loan. Four and a half years after the maximum funding period, you’ll start paying back: you have to pay back half the amount, but never more than \u20ac10,010. Don’t worry, there are still options for paying in instalments and repaying if you are not able to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For people with an interest in or even prior knowledge of IT things, the private sector is actually a good option. You can use a profile in XING\/LinkedIn\/\u2026 or use one of the many job portals. There are many student jobs that are well paid, especially in our industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Scholarships, Loans And Financial Start-up Aid For Freshmen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    In addition to BAf\u00f6G, the StwB also advertises other financing options.
    With scholarships, there are many ways to receive not only financial but also non-material support. Grades are often not the most important point, but things like social commitment.
    There are also loans for students, from interest-free to low-interest, which can be combined with and without BAf\u00f6G.
    There is start-up assistance specifically for freshmen if you are not able to pay the semester fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Housing benefit is federal support for people who cannot afford adequate housing. Unfortunately, it is not BAf\u00f6G compatible<\/strong>, but offers support for those who cannot obtain BAf\u00f6G. It can be applied for at the city administrative office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As long as you are under the age of 25 and you and your parents reside in Germany, your parents will receive child benefit for you. This should benefit you, even if you have moved out of your home!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The StwB currently operates 29 residential complexes with around 3,800 places in Bonn, St. Augustin and Rheinbach, which are only for students. There are different rooms with different equipment, but they are always furnished. Depending on the equipment, the rent is between \u20ac184 to \u20ac492 per month, with electricity, heating and really good broadband Internet included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can only live there for the standard period of study, but you can stay longer by volunteering in the dormitories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Last but not least, there is the AStA\u2019s Wohnen f\u00fcr Hilfe project, where you can get accommodation from senior citizens in exchange for help with everyday life and household chores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For international students with problems when looking for accommodation, there is the contact point housing@uni-bonn.de from the International Office of the university.       Wie finanziere ich mein Studium?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Es gibt viele M\u00f6glichkeiten, wie ihr euer Studium finanzieren k\u00f6nnt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      BAf\u00f6G<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Das BundesAusBildungsf\u00f6rderungsGesetz (BAf\u00f6G) regelt, dass Studierende unter gegebenen Umst\u00e4nden monatliche monet\u00e4re Unterst\u00fctzung bekommen. Ob man was kriegt, h\u00e4ngt vom eigenen Einkommen, aber auch von dem der Eltern ab, es ist also leider sehr viel Papierkram. Es lohnt sich aber, denn wenn man sich z.B. selbst versichert und nicht mehr Zuhause wohnt, kann man biszu 934 \u20ac bekommen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Man kann f\u00fcr die 6 Semester Regelstudienzeit BAf\u00f6G beziehen. Wenn man sich in der Hochschulpolitik engagiert (z.B. in der Fachschaft!) kann man auch noch l\u00e4nger Geld kriegen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Ab dem 5. Semester wird eine Leistungsbescheinigung gefordert, um weiter Unterst\u00fctzung zu erhalten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Die H\u00e4lfe des BAf\u00f6G sind geschenkt, die andere H\u00e4lfte ein zinsloser Darlehen. Nach 4,5 Jahren nach der F\u00f6rderh\u00f6chstdauer gehts dann ans R\u00fcckzahlen: Ihr m\u00fcsst die H\u00e4lfte, aber max. 10.010 \u20ac zur\u00fcckzahlen. Keine Sorge, auch hier gibt es noch M\u00f6glichkeiten der Ratenzahlung und Tilgung, solltet ihr nicht in der Lage sein, zu zahlen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Das Amt f\u00fcr Ausbildungsf\u00f6rderung des Studierendenwerk hat eine Beratungsstelle f\u00fcr BAf\u00f6G und sind tats\u00e4chlich auch die, die die Gelder genehmigen. Dort k\u00f6nnen euch alle weiteren Fragen beantwortet werden und auch eine Einsch\u00e4tzung gegeben werden, ob ihr BAf\u00f6G-berechtigt seid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Ein durchaus klassischer Weg der Geldbeschaffung ist, einen sich einen Job zu suchen. Die Fachschaft betreibt eine Jobb\u00f6rse in Form einer Mailingliste, auf der wir die relevanten Stellenangebote weiterleiten, die Firmen an uns senden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Das Hochschulrechenzentrum und die Uni haben ebenfalls Websites f\u00fcr ihre jeweiligen Stellenangebote. Bei der Uni sollten<\/em> alle Ausschreibungen aller Institute landen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        F\u00fcr Leute mit Interesse oder sogar Vorkenntnissen in IT-Sachen ist die freie Wirtschaft tats\u00e4chlich eine gute Option. Klickt euch ein XING\/LinkedIn\/\u2026 Profil oder nutzt eins der vielen Jobportale. Gerade f\u00fcr unsere Branche gibt es viele, recht gut bezahlte Studi-Jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Stipendien, Kredite, Finanzielle Starthilfe f\u00fcr Erstis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Das StwB bewirbt neben BAf\u00f6G noch andere M\u00f6glichkeiten der Finanzierung.
        Bei Stipendien gibt es viele M\u00f6glichkeiten, neben finanzieller auch ideelle Unterst\u00fctzung zu erhalten. Dabei z\u00e4hlen h\u00e4ufig nicht mal die Noten, sondern mehr Dinge wie soziales Engagement.
        Es gibt auch Kredite f\u00fcr Studierende, von zinslos bis zinsarm, mit und ohne BAf\u00f6G kombinierbar.
        Explizit f\u00fcr Erstis gibt es Starthilfe, wenn man nicht in der Lage ist, den Semesterbeitrag zu stemmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Wohngeld und Kindergeld<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Wohngeld ist eine Unterst\u00fctzung vom Bund f\u00fcr Menschen, die sich keine angemessene Wohnung leisten k\u00f6nnen. Es ist leider nicht BAf\u00f6G kompatibel<\/strong>, bietet aber eine Unterst\u00fctzung f\u00fcr jene, die kein BAf\u00f6G beziehen k\u00f6nnen. Beantragbar ists bei der Stadt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Solange ihr unter 25 Jahre alt seid, kriegen eure Eltern f\u00fcr euch Kindergeld. Das soll euch zugutekommen, auch wenn ihr von Zuhause ausgezogen seid!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der AStA hat auf seiner Website das Sofafrei-Projekt, wo Leute mit freien Sofa und Leute ohne Schlafplatz zusammenfinden k\u00f6nnen. Es gibt in Bonn eine Jugendherberge auf dem Venusberg, bei der man sehr g\u00fcnstig n\u00e4chtigen kann. Ansonsten gibt es noch das Basecamp in Dottendorf, bei dem man f\u00fcr etwas mehr Geld einen Platz findet. Dort findet quasi Indoor-Caming statt, kann man also vielleicht auch ohne Notlage mal ausprobieren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Wenn ihr eher was mittelfristigeres braucht, gibt es noch das Zeitwohnportal zwopo, wo man auf Zeit m\u00f6bliert wohnen kann. Die Uni betreibt die Zimmerfrei-Plattform, wo klassisch Wohnungen inseriert werden k\u00f6nnen, ohne shady Mittelsm\u00e4nner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Zuguterletzt gibts noch das Projekt Wohnen f\u00fcr Hilfe vom AStA, bei dem man bei Senioren eine Unterkunft kriegt, im Austausch gegen Hilfe im Alltag und Haushalt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Sonstiges<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        F\u00fcr Internationals mit Problemen bei der Wohungssuche gibt es die Anlaufstelle housing@uni-bonn.de vom International Office der Uni. Diese hat wohl auch M\u00f6glichkeiten, Antr\u00e4gen an das Studierendenwohnheim f\u00fcr Internationals nochmal Nachdruck zu verleihen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        In Bonn gibt es eine Zweitwohnsitzsteuer, das hei\u00dft dass ihr 12% der j\u00e4hrlichen Nettokaltmiete zahlen m\u00fcsst, solltet ihr in Bonn eine Nebenwohnung beziehen.         How Can I Finance My Studies?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        There are many ways to finance your studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        BAf\u00f6G<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        There is a law called, BundesAusBildungsf\u00f6rderungsGesetz (BAf\u00f6G) that regulates that students may receive monthly monetary support under certain circumstances. Eligibility depends on your own income, but also on that of your parents, due to this there is unfortunately a lot of paperwork. But it's worth it! An example is that if you are self insured and no longer reside with your family, you can get up to \u20ac934!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        You can obtain BAf\u00f6G for the 6 semesters of the standard period of study. If you get involved in university politics (e.g. in the student council!) you can get monetary support for longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        From the 5th semester, a certificate of achievement is required in order to receive further support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Half of the BAf\u00f6G can be considered as a gift, the other half is an interest-free loan. Four and a half years after the maximum funding period, you'll start paying back: you have to pay back half the amount, but never more than \u20ac10,010. Don't worry, there are still options for paying in instalments and repaying if you are not able to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The Office for Educational Support of the Studierendenwerk has an advice centre for BAf\u00f6G, and they are actually also the people who approve the funds. All other questions can be answered there. An assessment for eligibility for BAf\u00f6G can also be given there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Bonn-ID (Ausweis)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Those who receive BAf\u00f6G are also entitled to the Bonn ID card. This is a project of the city of Bonn that gives you a 50% discount on<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Jobs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          The usual way of raising money is to look for a job. The student council runs a job exchange in the form of a mailing list, on which we forward the relevant job offers that companies send to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The Hochschulrechenzentrum and the university also have websites for their respective job offers. All advertisements from all institutes should end up at the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          For people with an interest in or even prior knowledge of IT things, the private sector is actually a good option. You can use a profile in XING\/LinkedIn\/\u2026 or use one of the many job portals. There are many student jobs that are well paid, especially in our industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Scholarships, Loans And Financial Start-up Aid For Freshmen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          In addition to BAf\u00f6G, the StwB also advertises other financing options.
          With scholarships, there are many ways to receive not only financial but also non-material support. Grades are often not the most important point, but things like social commitment.
          There are also loans for students, from interest-free to low-interest, which can be combined with and without BAf\u00f6G.
          There is start-up assistance specifically for freshmen if you are not able to pay the semester fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Housing Benefit And Child Benefit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Housing benefit is federal support for people who cannot afford adequate housing. Unfortunately, it is not BAf\u00f6G compatible<\/strong>, but offers support for those who cannot obtain BAf\u00f6G. It can be applied for at the city administrative office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          As long as you are under the age of 25 and you and your parents reside in Germany, your parents will receive child benefit for you. This should benefit you, even if you have moved out of your home!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          How To Find A Flat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          Student Dormitories<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          The StwB currently operates 29 residential complexes with around 3,800 places in Bonn, St. Augustin and Rheinbach, which are only for students. There are different rooms with different equipment, but they are always furnished. Depending on the equipment, the rent is between \u20ac184 to \u20ac492 per month, with electricity, heating and really good broadband Internet included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          You can only live there for the standard period of study, but you can stay longer by volunteering in the dormitories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          You can apply online for free places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Dormitories Run By Private Providers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          In addition to the dormitories of the StwB, there are also some private providers. There are many that are close to our institute. The modalities here depend on the provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The Free Housing Market<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          There are special platforms for shared flats, such as wg-gesucht.de. WGs are usually significantly cheaper than individual flats, because the housing market in Bonn is unfortunately brutally expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Entsprechend bekommt man Einzelwohnungen nur mit viel Flei\u00df, Gl\u00fcck, Timing und h\u00e4ufig auch einfach guten Beziehungen. Falls es die aktuelle Wohnsituation erlaubt, ist es immer clever antizyklisch zu suchen -- also mitten im Semester statt gegen Anfang\/Ende, wenn viele auf der Suche sind. Ansonsten hilft leider nur suchen, suchen, suchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If you require something more medium-term, there is also the temporary living portal zwopo, where you can live furnished for a limited time. The university operates the Zimmerfrei platform, where classic flats can be advertised without shady middlemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Last but not least, there is the AStA\u2019s Wohnen f\u00fcr Hilfe project, where you can get accommodation from senior citizens in exchange for help with everyday life and household chores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Miscellaneous<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          For international students with problems when looking for accommodation, there is the contact point housing@uni-bonn.de from the International Office of the university. They probably also have opportunities to give additional emphasis to applications to the student dormitories for international students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          In Bonn there is a second home tax, which means that you have to pay 12% of the annual net rent if you move into a secondary home in Bonn.
