Unlike previous game nights, we want to bring you a combination of classical computer science and maths game nights.
This means that, in addition to our joint collection of board games and karaoke, you can also look forward to beginner-friendly game rounds including explanations of Tichu, Magic the Gathering, Blood on the Clocktower, and Two Rooms and a Boom.

Of course, you can also bring your own games in addition to our selection. Please make sure to label them accordingly.

Drinks will be available for purchase as usual from the student body office (located in the foyer).
Additionally, free waffles and snacks will be provided.

By the way: cool events like this only work if people help out and take on shifts. If you’re interested, just talk to people who are active in the student body.

FINTA* Tea Time

The most important details at a glance:

• Who is invited? FINTA* individuals[1] in their first or higher semester
• When? 18.11., starting at 16:00

• Cost? Tea and cookies are free!

FINTA*[1] Freshers’ Tea Time is an event designed to offer FINTA*[1] individuals a space to network and feel at home. Freshers are especially welcome, but students in higher semesters are of course not excluded!
FINTA*[1] Freshers’ Tea Time is a relaxed event where you can simply chat and enjoy tea and cookies. We’ll start with a little icebreaker game, and then you can engage in individual conversations.

Come along if you want to make new contacts or simply spend a few hours in a FINTA*[1] safe space.

[1] – the term “FINTA*” refers to female, intersex, non-binary, transgender, agender people, and other marginalized groups.

Cocktail Evening

• When? 20.11., starting at 18:00
• Where? In the basement of the Institute for Computer Science, also in the courtyard if the weather is good
• Prices? Drinks are available at student prices

Fancy a mocktail or cocktail? Then the Cocktail Evening is the perfect event for you!

There will be a variety of freshly prepared drinks. In addition, there will be a karaoke station for entertainment.

Remember to bring your ID and cash.

Come along and bring your friends, it’ll be worth it!

Waffle Event

• When? November 27, approx. 12:00 to 15:00
• Where? In the foyer of the Institute for Computer Science

There will be waffles!
We want to start mass-producing waffles again (this time with two new waffle irons) and you are cordially invited to come and snack on some.

The waffles are free and, as always, vegan.

Hello everyone,

New Basis is kind of confusing, and with it, some procedures regarding lecture and exam registration have changed.
In some cases, we were notified about the changes after we sent the Inform into print.
If Basis is confusing you right now, maybe this overview (from the student body council) can help:

– For computer science lectures: Unlike in the past, you now sign up for lectures during October instead of for exercises during December. The deadline is October 31, 2025.
– This has the same effect as in the past (success in exercises can be entered), and has no consequences if you stop taking the lecture you signed up for now.
– Please sign up for all lectures you plan on attending this semester as soon as possible.
– The registration for the lecture is something different from the registration for the exam, which will follow later (in December), and is only possible for the lectures that you sign up for now.

– For seminars/labs: As usual, you sign up for them in October. The deadline is October 31, 2025.
– Please keep in mind that you should only register on BASIS for a seminar/lab after its supervisors have confirmed to you that you got a slot in the course.

– In BASIS there are now multiple places where you can sign up for things. The best place to sign up for lectures, as well as for exams later on, is the “Planner of studies with Module plan”.
– All modules you can attend this semester are shown there, and you can sign up to them by clicking the door symbol. You may need to expand the tree view a few times in order to find the door symbol.
– For technical reasons, BASIS often has two entries per lecture, named “Event/Exercise” and “Exercise”. In theory it should only be possible to sign up for the lecture (“Event/Exercise”). However, in some cases signing up for “Exercise” is offered to you as well. The important part is signing up for the lecture. When in doubt you can sign up for all options shown.

– You can check what modules you are signed up for under “Enrollments”. If something doesn’t show up there try signing up for it again, and if the problem persists contact the programme management before the deadline:
– If you can’t sign up for a lecture that you should be able to sign up for, send a mail to pos@informatik.uni-bonn.de
– This should include your matriculation number, the module and whatever error message you got
– A mail in time also counts as signing up in time, even if the programme management gets around to resolving the issues much later.

– A general note: Much of the information in the new BASIS is not yet correct, such as the number of credit points for modules or whether modules are compulsory.
Please refer to sources other than BASIS for this kind of information, such as the module handbook, working group websites, or information in the eCampus courses.

Bei diesem reflektieren wir über die aktuellen Veranstaltungsformate der Fachschaft, sprechen über neue Eventideen, und finalisieren die Planung für das Semester.

Wir suchen wie immer noch Orga-interessierte Personen für einige kommende Veranstaltungen, aber du kannst an dem Treffen genauso gut teilnehmen, wenn du einfach nur in die Arbeit des Eventmanagements reinschnuppern möchtest / Meinungen beitragen möchtest. <3

we would like to cordially invite you to our Game Night taking place right after the Master Orientation Unit (for CS and CySec freshmen) on Tuesday October 7th, 2025!
The Game night will begin at 18:00 (6 p.m.) in the Foyer of the Institute of Computer Science, Friedrich-Hirzebruch-Allee 8 and will be held in English.

Whether you’re just starting out here in Bonn or have already been studying for a few semesters, we hope to provide a space for you to socialize, relax, and form connections that will help you throughout your student life!

There will be board games available in the Foyer (warning: many only have german instructions), as well as Karaoke in room 0.016, and additional space for games like Werewolf in room 0.011 of the Institute of Computer Science.
Feel free to stop by at any time, grab a drink from the Student Body office (right next to the foyer) and get to know your fellow students
You may also bring your friends or your own board games if you’d like.

Please note that the Game Night does not provide food, except for some cookies you can buy at the Student Body office.
That means if you’d like to eat dinner during the event, please remember to take care of your own food so you don’t starve on us
(Note: establishments near Campus tend to close around 19:00.)

Welcome to the University of Bonn!

Before anything:
You don’t have to (and can’t) sign up for lectures before the orientation unit.
So don’t worry about that.

We are happy to welcome you at the University of Bonn and hope that you arrived safely.
Regardless of whether you are going to study the Master Computer Science or Cyber Security you probably still have a lot of unanswered questions. Maybe even some that you didn’t know you had.
For example: What does “c.t.” mean? How do I register for a class? How do the exercises and the practice sheets work? Which lectures do I visit in my first semester?
Joint together, the student body and programme management want to help you answer these questions and many more.

At the beginning of every semester, the student body and programme management organize an orientation unit (OU) for new master students.

The most important goals of the OU are:

– Meet your peers – without friends, studying is hard!
– Get to know the unis facilities – so that you can find your way around!
– Take away the panic – it’s all going to work out fine!
– Answering your questions – so that you are well-prepared!
– Have fun – of course!

During the OU you will meet peers from higher semesters who will tell you anything you need to know.
We will show you the campus, and you will have plenty of time to get to know your peers.

The OU for master students takes place on Tuesday the 7th of October starting at 10:00 am in room 0.109 of the computer science building (Friedrich-Hirzebruch-Allee 6).
If you have time, we’d be happy to have you. You don’t need to register, just show up.
